LEGO Set #76021
The Guardians of the Galaxy LEGO sets have some really awesome minifigures. I haven’t been as impressed with the sets themselves, however. This one, The Milano Spaceship Rescue, is a great complement to Knowhere Escape Mission as you’ll have the whole Guardians crew if you get both sets. Groot and Rocket come with Knowhere and Star-Lord, Gamora and Drax come with the Milano.
This set is essentially the giant spaceship. While it’s large size might make it a nice trophy for display, it’s simply not as iconic as plenty of other LEGO sets, like the Millenium Falcon. Few people would probably recognize it as having anything to do with Guardians of the Galaxy, and it’s not a particularly pretty ship with its bright plasticy blues and yellows. The interior is a single cramped compartment that lets you do little more than seat your minifigures in the available chairs. The Sakaaran vehicle is pretty cool, though. It’s a nice little fighter craft that would make an excellent small set on its own.
The minifigures are great. I’d have loved an extra Sakaaran or two though to even things up a bit. With Groot and Rocket from Knowhere Escape Mission, the bar was already pretty high for minifigures, and LEGO continues to pull it off with Drax, Gamora and Peter. They feel like the characters from the movie, particularly Peter Quill who comes with his Star-Lord helmet to switch into. This is also the second LEGO minifigure based on a Chris Pratt character, with the first being Emmet from The LEGO Movie. And with Jurassic World approaching, it looks like he’ll have a third. That’s a pretty cool personal accomplishment for the guy.
Oh, I almost forgot. The ship comes with a tape deck! If you got the movie soundtrack, then it’s excellent background music for building and playing with this.
